Our Story

A journey of courage, family, and unwavering determination - built one plate at a time.

The Essie Grill Journey

Founded by Ismail Rammo, Essie Grill began as a small roadside trailer serving authentic, home-cooked flavours made with genuine care and passion.

What started as a humble operation quickly grew into a beloved local institution a destination people travelled across town for, drawn by food that felt like family.

Behind every dish is a deeper story of resilience. Ismail and his family arrived in the UK as refugees, seeking safety and the chance to build a new life. With his wife and family by his side, he poured everything into creating a welcoming space where great food brings people together.

Challenges came - relocation demands, lost premises, and forced closures but the vision never faded.

“When they told me I had to move, I rebuilt. When doors closed, I found new ones. Even when I had to stop for a while… I never stopped believing.”

In October 2025, after years of perseverance, that belief became reality: a permanent home in Buxton, built by Ismail’s own hands a true rebirth.

Today, Essie Grill stands for more than exceptional food. It represents hope, family, craftsmanship, and the quiet strength of never giving up.
